New York Marathon Goals

October 29, 2008

in Races

At the risk of embarrassing myself by making a public declaration, I thought I’d post my goals for Sunday’s New York Marathon, just like I did for the Colfax Half Marathon earlier this spring. Without further ado:

  1. To finish.
Okay, this might be shooting a little low. I should be able to at least crawl to the finish, unless something really horrible happens. But considering that I haven’t run a marathon in 12 years, I’d like at least one of these goals to be something that I have a fairly good shot at achieving.
  2. To finish in under 4:30.
I think this is fairly realistic for me, given my current level of fitness. But still – again thinking about the fact that I haven’t run a marathon for 12 years – it will be a challenge.
  3. To finish in under 4:15.
This would not be a PR for me, but it feels like a good ’stretch’ goal given my advanced age and conditioning.

Who else is running New York – or another marathon – this weekend? What are your goals?

If any else is running New York, take a look at this video from Runner’s World – Bart Yasso gives some good tips for running the race.

Happy Running!

Good luck! Nice sensible goals – I’ll predict the stretch goal.

Have fun and race smart,

Good Luck! My sister is running it as well, hoping for a 4:30. I need to run it one of these days.

I bet you can run faster than that!

That video gives me the goosebumps. It’s a HUGE race. Wonder if that many people on the road would slow you down or speed you up?

Can’t wait to hear the race report.

Hey – Good luck Sunday. I’m sure you will do great!
Remember – end with a smile on your face. And don’t be afraid of a few walking breaks. They really do help you run faster!
