Run Faster Links of the Week - February 17, 2008

February 17, 2008 By: kch Category: Links 2 Comments →

This week’s links involve running while [...]. For me, running by itself is enough of a challenge, but the people I’ve highlighted below seem to have taken the sport in entirely new directions. Enjoy!

Joggling

A lot of you have probably heard of ‘joggling’ - or juggling while running. It doesn’t seem to be just a parlor trick either - some of these jogglers are pretty darn fast. Here are links to a couple of joggler’s blogs:

  • Just Your Average Joggler - Good information for anyone that’s interested in juggling, running marathons, or combining the two.
  • The Blogging Joggler - The blog of Michal Kapral, who holds the world record for the fastest marathon while juggling three objects (2:50:09).

Free Running

Are you familiar with ‘free running’? Basically, involves incorporating various acrobatic feats into your running, such as jumping off and over obstacles, flips, running up walls, etc. It looks very fun, but also quite dangerous!

Here’s an extreme running video I pulled off YouTube for your viewing pleasure:

Knitting While Running

Finally, something I might actually be able to do. At the 2007 London Marathon, Susie Hewer set a world’s record for the longest scarf knitted while running a marathon (1m 20cm). Susie isn’t combining two of her passions just for the fun of it - along the way, she’s also raising money to fight Alzheimer’s disease. Check out her blog, Extreme Knitting Redhead, to find out how to support her fundraising efforts.

Apparently several other world records were also set at the 2007 London marathon - read more about this at the Guinness World Record site.

Hope you all are having a good weekend - I’m going to try to get back to running today after my injury timeout, so wish me luck!
